I have worked in education since 1978. I trained as an upper primary / lower secondary school PE teacher, teaching for 22 years in secondary and primary schools in the West of England area. For 9 years I was deputy head of Elm Park Primary school, in South Gloucestershire. At this time I became a TOPS trainer, training primary school teachers across the authority.
In 2000 I joined the local authority sports development team and later became Head of Community Sport & Active Lifestyles. I was instrumental in applying for the first South Gloucestershire school sports partnership, as well as developing the award winning Festival of Youth Sport.
I have been the strategic lead for physical activity and sport in South Gloucestershire managing a 40 strong team, working in community sport and a highly successful mentoring project using sport as a vehicle for change. I have planned and facilitated courses dependant on need, as well as developing new courses. I have undergone a 2 year leadership programme for the cultural sector in the South West, where I was sponsored by Sport England. I have used the techniques I learned to help teams and individuals to develop and flourish. I am fully committed to partnership working and have a track record of delivering and obtaining successful outcomes.
My motivation is a passion of PE, Sport and physical activity as a vehicle for changing lives.
